Featuring Intro by WrestleTalk
Barry Blaustein's (writer of Coming to America) Beyond The Mat questions what makes him a wrestling fan. Dubbed "The film Vince McMahon doesn't want you to see", it opens the door to what was—at the time—the rarely seen backstage world of professional wrestling during one of its hottest periods ever. With cameos from some of the biggest stars in the industry, such as Mick Foley, Terry Funk, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Jake "The Snake" Roberts, Beyond The Mat is the quintessential film for any fan of the insane world of Pro Wrestling.

Slowburn Shoot is a feature-length documentary that takes an unvarnished look at the world of independent wrestling through the lens of Absolute Intense Wrestling. Rising stars and ageing vets alike all pass through scrappy regional leagues like AIW. For some, it’s their only paycheck. For others, it’s their last chance. Slowburn Shoot also chronicles the trials and tribulations of founder John Thorne and his beloved co-owner “Chandler Biggins”. The story is told by some of the biggest names in professional wrestling today. They tell their own tales while revealing the tragedy and the ultimate triumph that is Absolute Intense Wrestling.

Screening at the Prince Charles Cinema and in the UK for the first time, Frowzy Films is proud to present SHOWGIRLS 2: PENNY’S FROM HEAVEN. The sequel to Paul Verhoeven's Showgirls, Showgirls 2 is written, edited, directed and produced by Rena Riffel (Showgirls, Mulholland Drive), who reprises her role as Penny in Showgirls and stars in the film. We follow Penny as she hitchhikes from Las Vegas to LA, desperate to become a professional dancer at the exclusive Stardancer club. However, she quickly descends into the city's seedy underbelly, encountering vicious dancers and manipulative men at every turn of her rise to success. Part INLAND EMPIRE, part 70s erotic film, part threadbare reimagining of the original, Rena Riffel’s vision was put together on a crowdfunded budget of just $30,000. Produced via consumer grade camera equipment, borrowed hotel rooms and guerilla filming, Showgirls 2: Penny’s From Heaven is a must watch for any fan of low budget cinema or the original Showgirls. This year marks the 15th anniversary of the film.
This screening will include a prerecorded video introduction from Rena Riffel.
Showgirls 2: Penny’s From Heaven is presented by Frowzy Films, co-curated by Molly Miles (Category H) and Pete Cann (Scour Cinema). Frowzy Films is a film club which explores microbudget genre cinema from a place of genuine love, putting small budget films on the big screen and celebrating them in a fresh light.
"Front salad, back salad, front blunt".
For one night only, Have A Gd Trip brings Skateboard Film Club to Prince Charles Cinema to celebrate one of the most influential skateboard films ever made. Originally released in 2003 and premiered at PCC, Girl Skateboards' YEAH RIGHT redefined what was possible in skateboard filmmaking. Combining groundbreaking parts from an all-star team with Spike Jonze and Ty Evans' unforgettable direction, innovative visual effects and iconic soundtrack. More than 20 years on, it's still as funny, inventive and inspiring as ever, and rarely seen on the big screen.
Jesse Walsh (Mark Patton) moves with his family into the home of the lone survivor from a series of attacks by dream-stalking monster Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund). There, Jesse is bedeviled by nightmares and inexplicably violent impulses. It turns out Freddy needs a host body to carry out his gruesome vendetta against the youth of Springwood, Ohio. While Freddy gains influence, Jesse and his girlfriend, Lisa (Kim Myers), race against the clock trying to figure out what’s going on.
The follow up to the film that introduced Freddy Krueger into our nightmares has become an iconically queer film due to its not so subtle context, tones and explicit desires.
